BEHR is one of the highest ranked suppliers of paint, decorative finishes and exterior wood care products among American paint companies. BEHR teamed up with Squat to develop a website that would ease the selection process that often daunts consumers of new house paints.
Our vision was to stimulate the imaginations of consumers by teasing them with a few creative ways to use all the available colors. This involved assigning each color a theme that users might apply to their homes, such as Mediterranean for turquoise blue and Fresh & Modern for gray. We show how a color can be used to create a certain tone or setting. Even the typography was adapted to the emotionality of the color’s theme and environment.
On the page dedicated to the color selection process, 3D slabs of chunky paint are slathered across the typography, appearing as though it were sitting on top of the user’s screen. We wanted to make users feel like artists, choosing paints for their homes the way painters select colors for their palettes.
With side-by-side comparisons of color squares and imagery, users are able to see the way color choices would turn out on actual home exteriors and interiors.
