LauLau Jewelry produces whimsical, ocean-inspired creations designed by artist, Lauren Reik. Her signature beach style was born along the Mediterranean coast in her first hour-long hunt for perfect, wave-sculpted seashells. There seemed to her only one way to appreciate their intricate beauty, and that’s by wearing them. To this day, the ocean continues to sweep in new treasures for Reik to convert into beautiful, new body decor. All of her timeless designs are handcrafted with the highest quality stones, metals, beads, leather and shells. Their simplicity and versatility makes them perfect for any woman on any occasion.
Squat New York was enlisted to strategize a way to help LauLau break through a cluttered jewelry market, already dominated by bigger, more established retail brands. After diving deep into the world of jewelry, we began to create a visual language that reflects LauLau’s feminine and beachy personality. Like Lauren, we drew our design inspiration from the ocean and all its awe-inspiring intricacies.
With mermaids on the brain, we made LauLau’s hand-drawn logo a more delicate version of the signature trident imprinted into many of the jewelry items. To emphasize the more luxurious faucets of the brand, we slipped a deep, vibrant gold into the color palette of pastel blues. We then refined the typography on all packaging materials into an open, wide-spaced font that lends them an air of simplicity and elegance.
Considering the emotionality often associated with the gift-giving tradition, we felt every jewelry piece should be housed in packaging materials of equal quality and meaning. We wanted to make sure that the identity and quality of materials remained consistent across all assets – including the letterhead, envelopes, business cards, catalogs, jewelry boxes and paper bags. Our final execution speaks for itself – LauLau Jewelry is making a statement that has helped the brand breach a new benchmark of elegance in the jewelry market category.
